Just too soon. . . .

Back in 1999 in the FUTO wilderness, our quest for an engineering degree brought us all together. The bonds formed in those years have proved resilient through time. There was never a dull moment with you. Graduation separated us, but Lagos brought back together. We either had the odd lunch or drink every other day before the long drive home. Your familiar presence made those lagos days bearable with the banter and laughter. Obinna, Chibuzo, late mario, edu boy, emyto, busta, Gboko and co. all made it worthwhile. That journey to villa in december 2006 with Kene Okoye remains unforgettable. It was 16 hrs of pure fun. The decision to further our education abroad was unanimous. I remeber your first phone call to me as soon as you landed in September 07. It was with Chuka Ejiogu and I was thrilled to have you around. I did visit Aberdeen couple of times and Aberdeen just felt like home with so many familiar faces. We shed our tears when we lost Mario, and during those rather tough times, called and supported each other. Time did fly past, and boys became men. Myself and Chuka Ejiogu on a drive to London called to congratulate you on your sons baptism, and boy did we have a good laugh on that call. We planned to meet at your sisters school in Coventry in November, with our wives and for a family weekend. But your boy wasn't too well, and we cancelled. The Christmas and new year messages were deeply appreciated. The football banter in Ibo vernacular on Alien vs Predators, with Gboko and co was just pure fun, and you made it great comedy to behold. The call from my wife to please call you and find out if all was well on the 31st of January, is one I will never forget. The sickening feeling that I could reach you no more was deep. A finality we can not reverse. I lost Mario, and I haven't stopped asking myself questions. Now you, all within 3 years. Obi, Akwaa Okwulu, Don sicily! The joy amidst all this gloom comes from the knowledge that you surrendered it all to the most High God. You knew Him deeper than ever before and found His favour. But our ways are not His ways. He is not man that He should lie. Therefore, I believe that you are already in a better place, that knows no sorrow or pain. I will miss you deeply brother, your memory remains alive until we are called home to meet, and part no more. With a very heavy heart, we say rest in peace dear brother. Soluem, Ama & Obi Nwajide.
